Hyderabad
Design
Service JAM

GSJ-Final-trans.png

  March 17th - 19th '23

48 hrs of
in-person creative
jamming!

The biggest, oldest and boldest of the three Jams, the #GSJam appeals to everyone interested in a design-based approach to change. With its broad appeal, it’s a great place for beginners to learn – or get better at – a whole set of design tools, methods and mindsets, which can be applied to any project. Or for experienced participants, the unique and optional Deep Jam challenge lets you test your skills against the clock, and against your peers on five continents.

Thoughtworks Hyderabad will be hosting the JAM. You will have mentors to guide you. Most of them Designers and a handful of skilled BAs as well.

What is a JAM?

Imagine a Jam session in music. You come together, bringing your instruments, your skills, your open mind.  Someone sets up a theme, and you start to Jam around it. You don't overanalyze it, you don't discuss it to death, you Jam. You bounce your ideas off other people, and play around with what comes back.

Together, you build something which none of you could have built alone. And at the same time, you are learning new ideas, discovering more about how you work and whom you best work with, sharpening your skills, and having a great time. And who knows, maybe there are one or two ideas there which might make it to the next album. Or maybe you Jammed so well, you decide to form a band...

The Global Jams work in just the same way. But it's not music you are Jamming - it's insights and ideas. You'll be working with people you might never have met before, bouncing insights and ideas off one another and building on what bounces back. And it's not just talking - you are here to build a functioning prototype and plan of action which you or somebody else might want to develop further.

Can you prototype and plan in a way that someone could push the process of exploration further, knowing what resources they would need, what they should do, and who they should talk to?  That's the challenge of the Jam.

48 hrs of Creative jamming on a secret theme that would be revealed 30 mins before the JAM.

FAQs

What is a JAM?

One special weekend, 48 hrs. People interested in service and customer experience will meet at locations all over the globe. They will be designers, students, academics, business people, unemployed people, customers, mums, kids and grand-dads.

For more info, visit: http://globaljams.org/about

What's the time period?

Spread across 3 days. March 17th Friday, 18th Saturday & 19th Sunday. You can take breaks, sleep, have refreshments, however the 48hr clock won't stop. You will JAM for 48 hrs. Not more than that. You can JAM for less than 48hrs, too.

Can i get a team with me?

No. Well, yes you can. However, you will be split into different teams. No preformed teams.

How is it in real time?

Glad you asked. Every JAM is different. Check out this video from Hong Kong JAM 2021.

https://youtu.be/DWhTeihGRSk

48 hrs? How?

48 hrs across 3 days are, including day & night.

Yes. This is how the JAM is conducted and celebrated worldwide.

What will i do in 48 hrs?

You will create a prototype. Remember, The Jam is not about “ideas” or “presentations”, it is about prototypes.

Why should i participate?

As a participant in a Global Jam, you will work through a whole design process in one weekend. Whether you are experienced or completely new to the field, you won't just be talking about service design, you will be working with others on developing concrete ideas and designs which could become real.

How big is the JAM, or a team of jammers?

A jam will need to be at least one team. We think that means a minimum size of about five people, but you might prove us wrong.

The more teams, the more fun. About fifteen or twenty people seems to be a nice size for a small Jam.

Can we stay at the premises for the nights?

Across the globe it's the host's call, and GSJ doesn't have any directive on the event to let jammers stay overnight.

No, the space isn't open for Jammers to stay overnight.
However, we have an extensive time for the 3 days for you to use the space. Post 9:00pm you'll need to work with your designated teams for arrangements.

I have more questions!

No problem, write a mail to hdsj2023@gmail.com.
We'll get back to you :)

Who is this for?

Anyone can take part. You might be a service designer, an academic, a customer, a student, a customer experience person, a UX ninja, a patient, someone in the customer frontline, unemployed, an actor, an artist, a doctor, a grandpa or a kid.

What are the rules?

Don't bring a team / Don't bring an idea / Be on time / Use your own tools / Sign up and upload / (Highly recommended) Be part of the conversation.
